Team Member Positions
Join one of our coalition teams!
We have several positions available that require varying time commitment and will give you exposure to the inner workings of advocacy.
Communications and Marketing
Reports to: Kyiia Rollag, Marketing Director
This team member(s) would help us maintain daily and regular communication through our general email, website, and social media accounts.
- Answer general daily emails.
- Forward any correspondences that need to be forwarded to the appropriate director
- Send out newsletters to the mailing list.
Reports to: Nicole Del Mar, Communications Director
This team member(s) would work with communications; however, the focus here is social media engagement and some design.
- Like and comment on posts daily on all social media platforms in order to keep our engagement up.
- Notify communications volunteers or a director if there are any dms that need a response.
Texas Legislative Team
Reports to: Erin Hayes, Legislative Director
This team member(s) would help us connect and network with lawmakers, their legislative offices, and relevant governmental bodies and commissions.
- Correspond with legislative offices on session updates.
- Keep up to speed with the ebb and flow of legislative sessions (what passes/what fails).
- Assist directors in preparing bill language and oral or written testimony.
Reports to: Erin Hayes, Legislative Director
This team member(s) would help us maintain consistent communication and outreach to community organizations and national policy stakeholders.
- Answer general daily emails.
- Forward any correspondences that need to be forwarded to the appropriate director.
- Send out newsletters to the mailing list.
Texas Legal Team
Reports to: Kate Farley, Policy Director
This team member(s) would bolster our research by finding relevant scholarly articles, empirical studies, and case law. This differs from death row research because instead of collecting research on specific inmate’s stories, this volunteer(s) would collect research on the RJA and how racial bias affects capital punishment.
- Research the RJA in Kentucky and North Carolina
- Research the legislative history of the RJA in Texas
- Find more relevant scholarly articles and empirical studies
Reports to: Kate Farley, Policy Director
This team member(s) would help us find stories to share in our newsletter/social media. This differs from our data collection team in that this would be more reading news articles and learning the stories of defendants as opposed to raw data collection.
- Research past and current death row cases where racial bias was likely a factor in the sentencing
- Draft a short write up of the case so that other volunteers and directors can learn about it
- Save and file any relevant articles to cases so we can pull the information up if need be
Nebraska Legislative Team

Reports to: Jahne’ Maddock, Policy Director
This team member(s) would help us find stories to share in our newsletter/social media. This differs from our data collection team in that this would be more reading news articles and learning the stories of defendants as opposed to raw data collection.
- Research past and current criminal cases where racial bias was likely a factor in the sentencing or wrongful conviction.
- Draft a short write up of the case so that other volunteers and directors can learn about it.
- Save and file any relevant articles to cases so we can pull the information up if need be.
Reports to: Megan Rollag, Executive Director
This team member(s) would bolster our research by finding relevant scholarly articles, empirical studies, and case law. This differs from death row research because instead of collecting research on specific inmate’s stories, this volunteer(s) would collect research on the RJA and how racial bias affects felony sentencing.
- Research the RJA’s bill language in California (introduced April 2020) and Utah’s bill passed via recommendations from their sentencing commission.
- Research previous (or old) studies on sentencing and racial disparity as well as brief Nebraska’s current sentencing process.
- Find more relevant scholarly articles and empirical studies.
